I gather up all my clothes and stick them in the stackable washer in the closet just off the bedroom. The breeze caresses my naked limbs and gives me the chills, but I enjoy it. The goose bumps travel up my arms and spread out to my whole body. I shiver for a second and then head to the kitchen.

And stop dead in the living room.

Ronin fucking Flynn is sleeping on the couch.

What is he doing here? My eyes track to the front door and I suppose it's my fault, I left it open. There's nothing but a screen door between this apartment and the terrace. My gaze wanders back to the sleeping man. He's lying on his stomach, his one arm tucked underneath him, the other falling over the edge of the cushion, and he's shirtless.

And then I realize I'm naked.

"Shit!"

He stirs and I make a break for the bedroom. It's one thing to let him see me naked half hidden in darkness and quite another to be fully illuminated by the bright morning sunshine. I wrangle the sheet around my body and then head back to the living room, wistfully looking at the washer that contains every single article of clothing I own.

"Ronin!" I say loudly.

Nothing except a half-muffled snore from him. Lord, this man has the most perfectly chiseled and muscular back I've ever seen. Both hands pull up and go under his face, like he's blocking out the sunlight, and this gives me the perfect opportunity to study his flexing biceps. The muscles are thick and hard-looking near his shoulders. They curve down, dip into a little valley, and then climb once again.

I lean down and smell him.

"Why are you sniffing me?" he asks groggily.

"Uh—" Because you smell delicious, the inner Rook says. But luckily the outer Rook says, "I'm checking to see if you're drunk. Why are you sleeping on my couch?"

He peeks up, opening one eye in my direction, squints, and then croaks out some words. "I love your outfit." He grins, winks, and then drops his head back down into his arms.

"Are you leaving?" I ask, frustrated and confused at the same time. "I mean, why are you here?"

"I told you I'd come back with dinner. But when I got here, the lights were on and you were in bed. I only sat down for a second to think up a rational excuse to wake you up, but I guess I fell asleep." He raises his head again, grins sheepishly, and then rolls over on his back, tucks his hands behind his neck, and flashes his perfect body at me as he closes his eyes, probably confident that I'll be checking him out.

I do check him out. It's quite hard not to notice that he's got the perfect six-pack abs and that absolutely adorable fuzzy happy trail you see on a shirtless designer jeans model. Hmmmm… maybe he is that model? "You have no shirt on."

Yes, after all that gawking, I finally manage the obvious.

He opens the one eye to look at me again. "Neither do you."

“Hey,” he grins, easy, and slides his hand around the back of my neck, pulling me in for a long, lazy kiss. My heart is racing as I taste him, mint and coffee, and something else, something all Emerson.

“You ready?”He puts the truck back in drive, and then slings his right arm around my shoulder. I snuggle closer, reveling in the touch of him.

“Ready for what?” I ask, as he turns out of town.

“This is our first date.” Emerson announces.

“Really?” I laugh. “I thought we were a long way past that.”

Like, three bases past.

I blush at the reminder, and I can tell from his wolfish grin that Emerson's thinking the same thing.

“A girl like you deserves a real date,” Emerson declares. “Not just groping in the dark somewhere.”

“In case you’ve forgotten, I kind of liked the whole groping in the dark thing,” I say, amazed at my boldness.

Emerson laughs. “Only kind of? Sweetheart, if that was you kind of liking something, I can’t wait to see what happens when you love it.”

“You'll just have to find out then, won't you?” I tease.

“Oh, I will. Believe me, baby. I've got plans for the two of us.” Emerson gives me that look again, dark and wild. He curves his lips into a teasing grin.

EXCERPT:

“Dinner’s here,” a masculine voice called out from the doorway.

I wasn’t surprised to see Luke standing there. Dad had been kind enough to explain that Luke brought him dinner three times a week, even when he was at the hospital. Especially when he was at the hospital.

“Good thing. I thought we were going to have to eat cafeteria food!” Dad said, feigning agony.

“The horror!” Luke mocked, thrusting the box at me. He shook my dad’s hand and asked how he was feeling.

“I feel great! I’ve got my daughter back home for a while and the doctor says I can go home in the morning,” he said.

Luke flicked his eyes at me but forced his gaze back to my dad. “I should have the porch finished by the end of the week, Joe.”

“There’s no rush, Luke. I know how busy you are.”

Luke sat in the chair next to me and I handed him the extra-large basket that was overloaded with French fries, fish, hush puppies, and a biscuit. My dad’s basket was nearly as full. I doubted either of them would be able to finish their meals. My basket was too much, of course, so I shoveled a bunch of French fries into Dad’s basket.

“Don’t hoard all that shrimp, girl,” Dad said.

I laughed and forked over several shrimp. He smiled and began to eat. The nurse explained that dad only ate well on the nights Luke brought dinners, so the staff allowed him to break the rules and bring in outside food. Normally, they were sticklers about dietary needs.

“So, Luke, how’s business?” Dad asked. “I bet business is good this time of year.”

My curiosity was piqued. Was Luke the boss of his construction company?

“You and I both know it’s not my business, Joe. J.P. is a good guy to work for, though. I’ve got my choice of jobs and yeah, it’s really busy. This past winter damaged a lot of roofs and the resulting water damage means we’ve got plenty of work for a few weeks.”

“Well, if you’re too busy to work on the porch, you know you can drop the job anytime, especially since I can’t pay you right now,” Dad said.

Wait, what? Luke said Dad was paying him. Why would Luke lie? I stayed silent while they reminisced. Maybe Luke had changed over the years.

Luke gave my dad a huge grin and within minutes, the two of them were laughing uncontrollably. I was in awe at the ease with which Luke addressed Dad. It was odd for me to see him in my dad’s life, since we’d been broken up for years.

Blurb:

Warning: This is an erotica novella with explicit language and sex.

Cleo has a problem, when she met Elliott, the maestro of Doms, eight months ago, he laid out the rules - no questions, no whining, and definitely no ties. But the lines blurred somewhere along the line and she crossed them. Now, she's in over her head with feelings for this beautiful man she shouldn't have. For her own preservation, she must end their weekly sessions and eat her heart in the process. But her Dom has problems of his own. Has he stepped over the same hazy boundaries?

I really enjoyed reading Keta's novella His Alone. Keta has a way of telling a story that leaves you salivating for more.

Cleo and Elliot both have a role to play in their little arrangement. Elliott is the Dom and Cleo is his Sub. They have a standing Friday night arrangement that has been mutually gratifying for the both of them. That is until Cleo comes to realize she needs more from her Dom then he originally offered in their arrangement.

I enjoyed reading about Cleo's struggle to come to terms with what she wants, and how she goes about dealing with the fallout. Cleo's Dom Elliott, had more layers than I was expecting, which was a breath of fresh air to me. Keta knows how to make these two characters relatable to everyone. On a scale from 1-10 I give His Alone a 10. It was a great fast read with enough kink to leave you satisfied. If you are looking for a HOT, quick read with some substance than His Alone is the novella for you. I encourage everyone adult 18+ to run out and pick yourselves up a copy and learn why, for Cleo, some things are worth taking a chance for.
